Project update: M205 Community Reference Group

City West Water established a Community Reference Group (CRG) in Carlton/Carlton North as a way to share information with the community about construction impacts, answer questions on construction activities and provide an opportunity to input into community projects that will be delivered to the community at the completion of our works.

The CRG is an information sharing forum that meets bimonthly, and members are asked to share information with their respective community networks.

The CRG comprises of stakeholders and community members who represent the views and interests of residents, traders and community groups. Members are from:

  • City West Water
  • Jaydo (Construction Partner)
  • City of Yarra
  • City of Melbourne
  • Bicycle Network Victoria
  • Community representatives

Our community representatives are:

How long will the CRG run for?

The Community Reference Group was formed in June 2019 and will run until mid 2020, the completion of the project.

What is the purpose of the CRG?

The Group will:

  • Provide an opportunity for the community to input into the options for the community project  
  • Engender a community sense of pride, responsibility and ownership of the selected community project/s thorough, meaningful and equitable engagement and consideration of community needs and ideas
  • Provide local advice and knowledge that will help develop the best outcomes for the project and the wider community
  • Enable opportunities for two-way conversations between the community, CWW and their contractors
  • Ensure the community has up-to-date and accurate information about the project
  • Provide a forum for shared learning and continuous improvement

What are the responsibilities of a member of the Community Reference Group?

Members should enable opportunities for two-way conversations between the community, CWW and their contractors.

The CGR was established by CWW as an advisory body and it does not have any formally delegated powers.

What are community members expected to do?

  • Attend the Community Reference Group meetings (held for a couple of hours in the evening every two months)
  • Provide local advice and knowledge that will help develop the best outcomes for the project and the wider community
  • Provide an opportunity for the community to input into the options for the community project
  • Ensure the community has up-to-date and accurate information about the project

What was the criteria to be a community member representative?

M205 Community Reference Group community members must meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • Be a resident within 200m of any part of Canning Street
  • Own or work at a business within 200m of any part of Canning Street
  • Own or work at a business, or participate or volunteer with a community group which has a specific interest in the areas surrounding, on or near Canning Street
