Celebrating 10 years of 'Day at the Zoo'
Celebrated annually, Day at the Zoo brings together new, emerging and vulnerable communities from across metropolitan Melbourne to learn more about emergency and essential services, as well as promote diversity, social inclusion and resilience. The day also marks the celebration of Cultural Diversity Week.
The event has reached over 7000 community members since its inception, and provides communities with an opportunity to engage with government organisations in a welcoming and supportive environment.
Strong partnerships have been established between the event’s sponsors the Victorian Multicultural Commission, Metropolitan Fire Brigade, Victoria State Emergency Service, South East Water, Yarra Valley Water and supporters Australian Federal Police, Ambulance Victoria, Energy and Water Ombudsman, Victorian Fisheries Authority, Parks Victoria, Victoria Police, VicRoads, Victoria Energy Compare, Australian Taxation Office and Victoria Legal Aid.
City West Water General Manager of Strategy and Planning, Cameron FitzGerald says that the event is a true symbol of how collaboration between government organisations can bring together diverse cultural communities to learn, grow and celebrate in unison.
“City West Water services a greatly diverse community of over 130 cultural groups across Melbourne and the West. Day at the Zoo not only advocates the operations of Victoria’s emergency and essential services, but also celebrates the promotion of social inclusion and resilience.
“Community members who may be facing language or cultural barriers will have the opportunity to meet representatives from a range of providers in a welcoming and supportive environment.”
“Supporting and promoting the cultural diversity of our customers is an important part of our ethos and our commitment to Water for Victoria, and as Day at the Zoo enters its tenth year, we are so proud to continue to host this event in partnership with the Victorian Multicultural Commission.”
