Crossley Street's 100-year-old water main to be upgraded

City West Water is upgrading a 100-year-old water main on the popular Melbourne CBD laneway, Crossley Street.

The necessary upgrade starting this month will take approximately four weeks to complete, and will see temporary road closures on Little Bourke Street to ensure that the reconnection of the new mains are carried out safely.

City West Water’s General Manager Infrastructure and Delivery, Maree Lang, said the upgrade was necessary to improve water infrastructure in Melbourne’s CBD.

“The renewal of this particular water main is essential to ensure continuation of a reliable water supply in this pocket of Melbourne’s CBD. City West Water will be in direct contact with local business owners and customers to discuss any disruptions to services during this time,” said Ms Lang.

The works are being planned in consultation with City of Melbourne, Local Traders, public transport operators, to reduce community impact where possible.

Water services may be impacted for a short period of time while the new main is connected. We have been working with business customers to minimise the disruption this might cause and customers will be informed before any planned service interruptions.
