Media Release: City West Water sets diversity and inclusiveness in sights

Western Bulldogs AFLW player Lauren Spark helped City West Water launch its new Diversity and Inclusion Strategy today which will see the organisation develop a more diverse workplace that better reflects the community it serves.

City West Water is supporting Ms Spark during the ground breaking inaugural AFLW season which has seen women play AFL professionally for the first time.

"Women have been playing football for a long time so to finally have our skills and love of the sport recognised not only through the establishment of the AFLW league, but through the fans who've come to watch us play, or watched on TV, is a great step forward," Ms Spark said.

People and Capability General Manager Louise Meadows said City West Water also wants to break new ground by becoming an employer that actively seeks to attract an exceptional and diverse workforce.

"City West Water has always been committed to fairness and equality now we're going to be expanding on this by becoming a workplace that advocates for diversity and inclusion," she said.

"Becoming a more inclusive workplace means making it easier and more attractive for people from a variety of backgrounds to work with us.

"Embracing and embedding more flexible work practices will be instrumental to us being able to foster the diverse and balanced workplace we're aspiring to be."

Ms Meadows said the organisation had a long history of actively engaging with the community and developing a workplace that better reflects its customers will help it continue to build on this work.

"As an example, City West Water is a large employer in Melbourne's western suburbs with 42 per cent of our customers speaking a language other than English. Increasing our number of culturally and linguistically diverse employees is just one of our goals for achieving workplace diversity," she said.
