Alexandra Parade Sewer Upgrade Project

We are upgrading a section of sewer on Alexandra Parade between Brunswick and Napier Streets.

When are works taking place?

Works are scheduled to start on Monday 18 June 2018 and are estimated to take approximately five months to complete. Construction works are planned to be undertaken Monday to Friday (7am – 6pm) with some critical night works and weekend works required. When night works or weekend works are required, advance notification will be provided.

To minimise disruption, our Sewer Upgrade Project has been planned to coincide with Melbourne Water’s M41 Water Main Project and we are working with the City of Yarra, Melbourne Water and Yarra Trams to minimise disruptions to you and complete all projects as quickly as possible.

Will pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles be able to continue to use Alexandra Parade during construction?

Yes. Pedestrian, cyclists and vehicles will be able to use Alexandra Parade during the works. Some local traffic detours will be in place to safely guide pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles around the works and lane closures. Napier Street cyclists will be diverted to the road to ensure the safe transit of both cyclists and pedestrians close to the construction zone.

Will water supply be interrupted during these works?

No. There will be no interruption to sewer or water services during these works.

Will there be night works or weekend works?

Where possible, construction works on Alexandra Parade will be undertaken during the day. However, in order to minimise congestion, we are required by VicRoads to undertake works at night and on weekends when traffic and cyclist movement through the area is at its lowest. Night works and weekend works allow for more efficient construction so we can complete the project as soon as possible.

When night works or weekend works are required, advance notification will be provided. Please see our scheduled night work for more information.

What does this mean for you?

We are working to minimise disruptions to you and will keep you informed of any construction impacts which may affect you.

During works you will notice:

  • There will be no interruptions to sewer or water services during the works.
  • There will be no interruptions to tram services on Brunswick Street.
  • Traffic management will be in place to ensure pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles are able to use Alexandra Parade during these works.
  • Access to Napier Street will be maintained during the works.
  • Napier Street cyclists will be diverted to the road to ensure the safe transit of both cyclists and pedestrians close to the construction zone.
  • A small number of car parking spaces along Alexandra Parade (city-side) may be temporarily occupied.
  • Part of the centre medium reserve on Alexandra Parade will be used as a secure construction site including a small number of car parking spaces currently servicing the Fitzroy Pool.
  • Sewerage bypass pumps will be placed at the end of Napier St.
  • Once the works are completed, any areas affected by the works will be reinstated as closely as possible to their original condition.

What do these works mean for Napier Street residents?

The end of Napier Street (at Alexandra Parade) will house a Pump Site (approx. 7.5 metres x 8 metres).

The Pump Site will:

  • accommodate two pumps – both largely silent with the addition of acoustic drapings
  • be in operation intermittently, only when sewer works are being undertaken on key parts of our Sewer Upgrade Project
  • utilise four car parks on the park-side of Napier Street, with one of these car spaces used as a dedicated cyclist ramp with temporary signage erected during the works.

Current scheduled night works

Upcoming night works will begin on Monday 18 June 2018. Works will take place from Monday to Friday, between 8.00pm and 5.00am. Works will continue until Wednesday 11 July 2018.

These works will be taking place on Alexandra Parade on the corner of Brunswick Street. The bypass sewer pump (City West Water Pump Site) on Napier Street may be required to be operational during these times and will be largely silent with acoustic drapings.
