Trade Waste Officer
Duties and responsibilities
The primary role within this department involves the management of trade waste agreements – this entails working with customers to ensure that City West Water trade waste requirements are met before such waste is discharged to a sewer within our service area. The projects you will work on
- Assessing pre-treatment requirements for trade wastes
- Helping the customer to comply with trade waste requirements
- Assessing applications for trade waste agreements
- Conducting inspections of customer sites from a wide range of industries
- Taking samples of trade waste and revising trade waste procedures for improved business processes
- Responding to incidents that result in environmental impacts such as sampling waterways after spillages
- Determining appropriate trade waste billing charges
- Catchment blitzes to identify new trade waste customers and investigate trade waste non compliances
The Trade Waste team also works closely with the Cleaner Production team to help customers reduce their water usage and pollutants discharged to sewer.
The people you will work with
Customers from a wide range of industries: refineries and complex chemical plants to restaurants and take-aways, plumbers and consultants as well as internal groups such as billing officers, CAMS (for plumbing and metering issues), Cleaner Production and sometimes Councils and the community.
Career progression
You will start off managing our low risk customers, which is an ideal way to learn the basic concepts and functions of trade waste. You can progress up to managing complex trade waste sites, gaining an understanding of different trade waste types and treatment systems and taking trade waste samples. The role also has the potential for growth into compliance coordinator, supervisor and manager.
