About TODP
Imagine getting hands-on experience and training in the urban water industry – and getting paid for it!
Our Technical Officer Development Program (TODP) has been designed to give high school-leavers and people with pre or post trade qualifications the opportunity to pursue an exciting career in the urban water industry.
Working across a broad range of departments – from capital works to standards and design – you will learn from some of the smartest minds in the water industry and take part in field trips and practical exercises.
A good starting wage is on offer as well as increases based on your progress. Plus, you will receive all the standard benefits available to City West Water employees.
Who can apply for the TODP
The program is open to secondary school leavers and people with pre or post trade qualifications who want to pursue a career as a Technical Officer in the water industry.
We are looking for students who have strong learning ability, passion and commitment, who are interested in maths subjects.
The program takes 4 years to complete for new entrants. Education, uniform and equipment expenses are paid for by City West Water.
What the TODP entails
Education and training An intensive, 3-month orientation program will take you through the structure and operations of the water industry.
We’ll then focus more on technical education and training delivered through in-house technical experts and Victoria University. Assessment will be by formal exams, projects and assignments as well as on-the-job competency assessments.
This will result in a Diploma and then Advanced Diploma qualification through Victoria University and give the opportunity for further academic qualifications to be pursued.
Experience and rotation You’ll get to work across a wide range of areas within City West Water including:
- Standards and Design
- Network Operations
- Development Servicing Solutions
- Project Delivery
- Asset Risk
We tailor the program to meet your needs with development planning sessions to identify your specific learning requirements – for example, you can take part in further rotation experiences or choose to specialise in a particular area.
