We exceeded our showerhead exchange target
We developed a showerhead exchange program to provide our customers with an easy, practical way to reduce the amount of water they use in the shower, which accounts for around 30 per cent of household water use. A 3-star water efficient showerhead saves up to 13,500 litres of water per person per year.
We are pleased to report that by 30 June 2008, we had exceeded the exchange target with 37,010 showerheads exchanged. 33,963 were exchanged with residents and 3,047 with business and industrial customers. Most importantly, this means our customers are saving more than 900 million litres every year for the life of the showerheads.
What’s more, funds from the scrap metal collected from all of our exchanges is donated back into the community, either via councils or selected charities. We donated almost $10,000 to a range of charities including Blind Citizens Australia and the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.
The showerhead exchange program will continue into 2008-09 and beyond. To register for a free showerhead visit www.citywestwater.com.au.
To make the showerhead exchange process as convenient as possible for our customers, we developed a number of delivery methods including:
Partnerships with local councils
In 2008 we worked closely with the local councils to set up showerhead exchange services at 20 of their offices, community centres and libraries.
Exchanges at Australia Post
We set up a partnership with Australia Post to offer showerhead exchange services at 11 outlets to local customers.
Exchange events
Our involvement in a range of events saw us partner with key community stakeholders to offer showerhead exchanges at venues across our service area.
