From the planning and development of new properties to fixing pipes and mains, detailed maps play a key part in the work we do at City West Water.
A new geographical information system makes maps available to more people
To improve our work flow and make these maps available to more departments within our business, we commissioned a company to evolve our existing GIS (Geographical Information System) into something more powerful, accessible and user-friendly.
Open Spatial, a specialist GIS provider, were appointed to the task of vastly improving our GIS system. The process involved migrating data from the old system and introducing new information such as aerial photography, Melways maps and public transport infrastructure data to help us better target the delivery of our services.
In early June 2008, we went live with the new, web-based GIS system and have made it available to all City West Water staff via our intranet. Our plan is to make the system available to external plumbers and developers via the internet.
