A leading family support service in Footscray turned the taps on a new supply of rainwater in April 2008, thanks to our support.

Footscray family support service says tanks

Tweddle Child and Family Health Service, which helps people manage the challenges of parenting, installed a 5,400 litre rainwater tank with the help of a $1,500 City West Water community grant.

The gardens at Tweddle are particularly important in creating an inviting and tranquil atmosphere for families in times of stress. The challenge is to keep them green while also being sensitive to the need to save water. The rainwater tank was a welcome water-boost to their residential stay facility and helps keep their garden and lawns thriving.

To help kick start the water tank’s supply, we also donated 5,000 litres of water collected from burst water mains as part of our reclaimed water program. The program has seen more than 1.3 million litres collected by tankers and reused by sports grounds and community groups in the last year.

In addition, we swapped ten showerheads for three-star efficient ones in the residential facility, as well as putting in shower timers to encourage families to monitor their water use whilst staying at the facility.
