Looking ahead:
Further analysis will be undertaken to improve our understanding of the causes of water main failures including a research project with Monash University which aims to determine the impact of dry conditions on water mains in reactive clay soils, which is the predominant soil type in City West Water’s licence area. Ongoing renewals programs will also continue to manage breaks per 100km. The 2008-09 target we will be working to is 89.8 water main breaks per 100kms.
