City West Water was formed in 1995 when the Victorian Government split Melbourne Water into three separate retail businesses – City West Water, South East Water and Yarra Valley Water – and one wholesaler, Melbourne Water.
City West Water is a company incorporated under the Corporations Act 2001.
We are wholly owned by the Victorian Government, which appoints a Board of Directors to oversee our overall business.
Our core business is in the provision of drinking water, sewerage, trade waste and recycled water services to residential and business customers in Melbourne’s CBD and inner and western suburbs.
Structure and governance
City West Water operates under a Board of Directors appointed by our shareholder, the Victorian Government.
Directors bring a broad range of skills to the business, including management, engineering, financial, legal and environmental expertise.
At 30 June 2008, our Board was made up of seven directors, comprising a non-executive Chairman, five non-executive directors and the Managing Director, our only executive director.
Our Board of Directors is responsible for setting and overseeing the strategies, policies and objectives of our business. Directors aim to meet the highest standards of corporate governance and recognise the importance of demonstrating ethical standards and conduct.
We service and supply Melbourne’s CBD and inner and western suburbs
Our service area comprises the local Government areas of Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melbourne (north of the Yarra River), Moonee Valley and parts of Wyndham, Yarra, Melton and Hume.
