Exemptions
Exemptions from Stage 1 restrictions can be obtained from us if we determine a genuine need. There are a number of instances where we will consider an exemption, including medical reasons. Please call us on 131 691 to discuss whether you may eligible for an exemption.
An application for approval is required for water uses such as establishing warm season grass or watering sports facilities. An application for an exemption that is not already covered under any of these things can be made via your government water utility.
An exemption may be provided to customers who demonstrate that:
- their proposal would see less water use
- they have special needs (often medical reasons)
- their proposal would reduce/minimise physical damage to an asset
- their proposal would reduce adverse effects on public health or safety
- their proposal would not, in combination with other comparable applications, have a significant impact on daily water demand
- they are likely to be supported by other customers.
To apply for an exemption please download the form and return the completed form to us. We will asses your application and contact you with the decision. More information is available below.

I am a shift worker and I work between the permitted watering hours - can I apply for an exemption?
Yes. However, we prefer/recommend that you install an automatic watering system. -
Who can apply for an exemption?
The main reasons that exemptions are granted are:
- to avoid an inequitable impact on the livelihood of the applicant
- to avoid adverse effects on public health and safety.
-
Does the exemption I received under Stage 2 still apply?
No. If you have an exemption under Stage 2, your exemption will not automatically carry over under Stage 1. There are some exemptions that will carry over (such as medically related exemptions).
