Who Will Use Recycled Water?

Class A recycled water is now being supplied to the Werribee Technology Precinct and surrounding sports grounds, and will be supplied to new housing estates in West Werribee. Other recycled water projects under investigation include Sunshine Golf Course and the Altona Industrial Project.

Recycled water standpipe

Since late 2006, City West Water has been supplying recycled water to customers from a standpipe at the Western Treatment Plant. Registered customers from across Melbourne are either collecting the water themselves or purchasing it from licensed water carters. The Class A recycled water is being used for irrigation of parks and sports grounds, dust suppression, car washing and fire fighting.

MacKillop College, Werribee

Since February 2007, City West Water has been supplying MacKillop College with recycled water to irrigate its sporting fields, gardens and recreation areas, saving around 20 million litres of drinking water a year.

The school receives Class A recycled water from the Western Treatment Plant via a pipeline constructed by City West Water to connect the school to the Werribee Irrigation District pipeline.

Werribee Technology Precinct

City West Water has been supplying Class A recycled water to the Werribee Technology Precinct since July 2007. Customers currently using recycled water include Melbourne University Veterinary Science Campus, Heathdale Christian College, Sistems Golf Park, Wyndham City Council and Victoria University. The recycled water is used for various purposes including irrigation, washing down of animal enclosures and pump cooling.

West Werribee Dual Water Supply

City West Water’s West Werribee Dual Water Supply Project will deliver Class A recycled water to new housing estates in Melbourne’s Western Growth Corridor including Manor Lakes, Bluestone Green and Werribee Field. Class A recycled water will be supplied to homes through a separate purple pipe alongside the supply of drinking water. Local parklands, fountains and sporting grounds will also benefit.

Altona Recycled Water Project

The Altona Recycled Water Project will supply 2.5 billion litres per year of Class A recycled water to industry and golf courses in the Altona area.

The project will involve designing, constructing and operating a recycled water treatment plant at the Altona Treatment Plant. The new pipelines from the Altona Treatment Plant will then connect industrial company Qenos and Kooringal and Sanctuary Lakes Golf Course and Altona Green reserve.

City West Water anticipates that recycled water will be available to customers by December 2010.

Sunshine Golf Course

City West Water will supply Class A recycled water to the Sunshine Golf Course from sewer mining. A wastewater treatment facility, sewer collection pump station and sewer rising main are currently under construction. The irrigation of the golf course with recycled water is expected to commence by March 2008.

Other recycled water projects

City West Water is currently investigating other recycled water projects including the supply of recycled water to the Keilor region, industrial areas in Laverton and Altona, and the supply of recycled water to the North Werribee residential area.
