Build Over Easements

Guidelines for proposed works over/adjacent to Water Authority assets.

The Build Over Easement guidelines have been introduced to provide consistency across the three Metropolitan Melbourne Water Businesses and provide an outline of the requirements which need to be considered when planning to construct works over the Water Authority’s easement or within 1.0 metre of sewer and/or water assets.

This is a legislated requirement under the provisions of the Water Industry Act 1994.

City West Water conducted extensive consultation with our stakeholders to determine what specific areas and topics were of concern to industry groups. This information formed the basis of what should be included in the review. We also received written submissions from our customers.

The review resulted in a large number of items that have now been made consistent across the three urban water businesses. These range from water servicing/metering conditions, sewer servicing conditions and asset protection guidelines.

In addition, the three metropolitan water retailers continue to work together to ensure our policies and procedures remain consistent and differing approaches are avoided.
