Puckle Street to Get Water Main Upgrade
City West Water is replacing a short section of water main along Puckle Street, Moonee Ponds from mid January.
Approximately 150 metres of water mains will be renewed on the southern side of the road between Mt Alexander Road and Pratt Street, with works expected to take up to eight weeks to complete.
City West Water Managing Director Anne Barker said the replacement of the water main is part of an ongoing program to replace ageing water mains in Melbourne.
“The water main along Puckle Street was built in 1923 and has had a recent history of leaks and water supply interruptions to traders and residents,” Ms Barker said.
“The new water main will provide a consistent, reliable source of water to local businesses and residents without the inconvenience caused by ongoing repairs.
Works will be take place between 7am – 3.30pm, Monday to Friday. A work zone will be created on the southern side of Puckle Street which will make around 10 car parking spaces unavailable during construction. The work zone enables works to take place in safety and protect the safety of pedestrians in the precinct.
Motorists may experience delays when driving through the area. Pedestrian access will not be affected during the works.
Ms Barker said City West Water fully understands the importance of this iconic shopping strip in Moonee Ponds and every effort has been made to ensure disruption is kept to an absolute minimum.
“The works will cause some disruption, and we are confident the community will be accommodating as we undertake these essential water main renewals.”
