Our Environment
City West Water’s vision is to be a truly sustainable water business. For us, sustainability means balancing our social, environmental and economic responsibilities.
Our Environmental Policy outlines how we seek to meet our environmental responsibilities to achieve the following strategic objectives:
Environment
- Manage supply and demand to minimise extraction of water from the environment
- Maximise sustainable reuse of water
- Protect and minimise the impact of our business and our services on the environment
- Towards zero waste.
Customer
- Conservers not consumers
- Clean producers not polluters.
We have a number of programs and activities designed to both promote sustainability within our business, as well as assist us in providing our core services of water, sewerage, trade waste and alternative water in a sustainable way.
Our Sustainability Policy reflects our aspiration to lead by example in enhancing our own sustainable practices as well as those of the broader community. We apply this policy in all of our business operations and include developing partnerships with our stakeholders to encourage the uptake of more sustainable business practices.
Our Environmental Sustainability Plan sets out our strategy for environmental management. It contains specific objectives, programs and targets to improve our environmental performance over the three years from July 2008 to June 2011.
We have also signed a Sustainability Covenant with the Environmental Protection Authority Victoria, which formalises our commitment to working with the EPA to achieve resource use efficiencies and to reduce the
ecological impacts of our operations.
We report on our performance across a number of important environmental, social and economic areas in our annual Sustainability Report.
