Water Week Idol 2010
The message is clear!
In the weeks leading up to National Water Week, City West Water received over 250 entries for their primary school National Water Week Poster Competition. The messages on the posters were clear. Water is our most precious resource and we should all do our best to save it.
The City West Water judging panel had a hard task trying to identify three winners from each of the year level categories due to the high number of quality entries received. The winning posters are displayed below.
Finalists had their work judged at state level where all of Victoria’s water retailers submitted their top entries. Congratulations to Iramoo Primary School who had two state level winners. Lalith Ramesh (Prep) and Kate Ritchie (Grade 1) received first and second state prizes respectively.
Secondary School Poster Competition
In 2010 secondary students were invited to participate in a poster competition to promote water conservation. Students were able to use a range of mediums including ICT and photography. Prizes were awarded to 5 students in the City West Water service area.

Water Week Idol 2010
On Wednesday 20 October over 450 students from primary schools in the City West Water service area attended our annual National Water Week Idol. This event aims to raise awareness of water conservation through students performing original water songs or altering the words of well known tunes.
In 2010 six schools rose to the challenge and performed in front of celebrity guest judge Natalie Hunter from Totally Wild, the Indigenous Hip Hop Project’s Matthew Majka, and Melbourne Water’s Kate Kearns. The schools sang a range of different songs using original music and tunes such as Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’ and Kylie Minogue’s ‘Locomotion’.
Congratulations to St Mary’s Primary School who were our 2010 winners. Their performance ‘Water Wise Cities’ included singing, movement and unconventional instruments from recycled materials such as plumbing pipes. St Mary’s PS received $1000 to spend on a water saving project at their school.
Congratulations also to Ascot Vale Special School, Kings Park PS, Merri Creek PS, St Martin de Porres PS and Williamstown PS for your terrific performances.
We look forward to seeing you again at next year’s Water Week Idol!
