Community Education
Around one third of City West Water's customers come from a non-English speaking background. For those customers who have just recently arrived, dealing with a water company and a guarranteed supply of drinking water can be a new and daunting experience.
It's important to talk to these customers about the quality of their drinking water and how to interact with City West Water. It is also important to teach them about the concept of water conservation and the need to use water in line with the current restrictions, especially considering that many of these customers may not be exposed to the advertising in mainstream media.
In order to reach these customers, we have developed an English-as-a-second-language syllabus, which is a comprehensive learning and information resource designed specifically for adult education centres that cater to communities from non-English speaking backgrounds.
The syllabus covers a wide range of water related topics, including the basics of our water supply, how to receive and pay a bill, and importantly water conservation. It is available for use by English-as-a-second-language providers within our service area.
