Does your old showerhead belong in the Museum?

24 October 2007

City West Water and Melbourne Museum have joined forces to make sure Melbourne’s showerheads are efficient rather than ancient in a special event on Sunday 28 October to celebrate National Water Week.

The free showerhead exchange will run from 11am to 3pm, giving City West Water customers the chance to exchange their old showerheads for a new, three star water-efficient one.

As a special incentive, those swapping their showerheads will also receive two for one admission into Melbourne Museum, a great chance to explore its Water Smart Home exhibit showing you how to reduce water use in the home and garden.

With Stage 3a water restrictions currently in force within Melbourne, installing a water-efficient showerhead is one of the easiest ways to save around 12,000 litres of water per household per year.

City West Water’s Managing Director, Anne Barker, says she is looking forward to seeing lots of exchanges.

“Changing to a three star water-efficient showerhead is an easy way to achieve significant water savings at home, while saving money on your household bills,” Ms Barker said.

“With Stage 3a water restrictions in place until June next year, it’s important we continue to be mindful of how we use water in and around the home. We can really make a difference if we act together as a community.”

With close to 700,000 visitors per year, Melbourne Museum is one of Melbourne’s largest tourist attractions, and is a City West Water customer.

Melbourne Museum’s Assistant Curator Sarah Rood, says the Museum has embraced water saving initiatives by helping visitors understand more about water conservation.

“This new partnership with City West Water gives the public the chance to learn more about water saving and also teaches us new ways to help the current water shortage situation,” Ms Rood said.

“National Water Week is a great opportunity for us to hold a showerhead exchange event. We hope to see lots of people come along and take advantage of a chance to swap their showerhead as well as pick up two for one admission tickets for the museum.”

National Water Week runs from 21 to 28 October and focuses on water awareness nation-wide. Since it was first held in 1993, it has grown to become a well recognised event.
