A leading family support service in Footscray will turn the taps on a new supply of rainwater today, thanks to support from City West Water.
Tweddle Child and Family Health Service, which helps people with young children manage the challenges of parenting, has just installed a 5,400 lire rainwater tank with a $1,500 community grant from City West Water.
To help kick start the water tank’s supply, City West Water also donated 5,000 litres of water collected from burst water mains as part of its reclaimed water program. The program has seen more than 1.3 million litres collected by tanker and reused by sports grounds and community groups in the last year.
Vivienne Amery, Chief Executive Officer, from Tweddle Child and Family Health Services said the rainwater tank was a welcome boost to their residential stay facility and would help keep their garden and lawns thriving.
“The gardens are particularly important at Tweddle, creating an inviting and tranquil atmosphere for families when they turn to us in times of stress. We want to keep them green while also being sensitive to the need to save water,” Ms Amery said.
“With City West Water’s help, we’ve also swapped ten showerheads for three-star efficient ones in our residential facility, as well as putting in shower timers to encourage families staying with us to monitor their water use.”
City West Water’s Managing Director Anne Barker said the company is very pleased to work with community groups to deliver projects which provided both environmental and community benefits.
“The funding for Tweddle to install a rain water tank, efficient showerheads and shower timers not only supports an organisation doing vital work in our community but will also mean significant savings in drinking water,” Ms Barker said.
“We also hope that a more water-wise Tweddle will be well positioned to lead by example and encourage their clients to save water around their own homes.”
