Kicking goals for water savings during footy finals season

12 September 2007

Local football supporters will have the chance to swap their showerhead and save water, when City West Water holds its next showerhead exchange during the Western Region Football League (WRFL) finals.

The exchanges will take place at Werribee’s Chirnside Park between 11am and 2:30pm on Saturday 15 September.

City West Water Managing Director Anne Barker said local sporting clubs were well aware of the effects of the drought and the need to save water.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to exchange your showerhead for a three star water efficient model and make a difference.”

The three star water efficient models will allow households to save up to 12,000 litres of water each year as well as money off their water and energy bills.

“With low rainfalls during August, it is still vital that Melburnians do what they can to save water. Swapping to a more efficient showerhead is one of the easiest ways to help,” Ms Barker said.

“This free exchange is a chance for football fans to play an active role in confronting the water problem. We can make a difference if we act together. If 80 people exchanged their showerheads, they would save enough water to fill an Olympic sized pool every year.”

If your team isn’t playing or you can’t make the event, visit our website or call City West Water to find out where you can take part in the showerhead exchange programme.

Old showerheads will be recycled into scrap metal and proceeds will go to charity.

What you need to bring:
1. Your old showerhead to exchange
2. Your water bill
3. A showerhead exchange form (available from our website or on the day)
