Six budding artists have won a competition to design the packaging for City West Water’s shower timers.
The primary school students will see their water saving designs and slogans printed on a postcard accompanying the four minute shower timers.
The designs will also feature on City West Water’s website and the students and school received a bucket of prizes including water saving devices, books and vouchers.
The postcards and timers will be launched during National Water Week, which runs from 21 October to 28 October and will be handed out at festivals, showerhead exchanges and other events to remind people to keep their showers to four minutes or less.
Twin sisters, Stephanie and Michelle Nguyen from Laverton Primary and Deer Park North Primary School students Edwina Green and Nick Tran created eye catching designs, while Jimmy Vuong and Rachel Nguyen from St Albans South Primary devised clever slogans.
The students agreed it was everyone’s responsibility to save water.
“The drought is having a big impact on our water supplies, so it is important we all find ways to save water to make sure we have enough to drink in the future,” Edwina said.
“Three or four minutes is long enough in the shower, and we save water by turning the tap off when we brush our teeth too,” Stephanie said.
Anne Barker, City West Water’s Managing Director, said the students’ colourful designs were sure to encourage people to spend less time in the shower.
“Young people are our future water savers and projects such as this one help to build a strong culture of water conservation,” she said.
“The students have done a fantastic job, with bright and bold designs and persuasive slogans which will inspire the wider community and spread the message about water conservation.
“National Water Week is a great reminder that we should all aim to spend less than four minutes in the shower. Combined with a three star water efficient showerhead, shorter showers can save a household more than 20,000 litres of water every year.”
City West Water offers a free showerhead exchange service for customers, replacing old showerheads with a three star water efficient model. Visit www.citywestwater.com.au to find out how to swap and save.
