City West Water is working to help high water using households save water and money, as part of a new water audit program being trialled.
City West Water is targeting larger residential water users in each municipality across its service area, offering them a visit from one of its Water Patrol team.
In the first two months of the program, Water Patrol Officers visited more than 115 households to look for possible leaks, show householders how to check for leaks and provide advice on other water saving options.
During these visits, officers found 11 undetected leaks, one of which was wasting around 3,900 litres of water a day, the equivalent to the water used by nine average households.
The Water Patrol Officers also exchanged inefficient showerheads and twist garden nozzles for more efficient models, and issued shower timers and buckets.
City West Water Managing Director Anne Barker said the project aims to help households with high water use find ways to conserve water.
“With water restrictions remaining at Stage 3A until at least the end of September and below average rainfall levels in August, it is important households continue to save water around the home and garden,” Ms Barker said.
“This program sees our Water Patrol team getting out into the community and working proactively with high water using households to reduce their water use.“
