Wyndham residents have the chance to swap their old showerhead for a free, three-star water efficient one as well as learn some water saving hints for their garden when Mambourin Sensory Garden hosts a three week showerhead exchange this September.
Established ten years ago in Werribee, the Sensory Garden features water wise gardening techniques which can be used in everyone’s backyard. The exchange will run from 10:30 am to 4pm from Wednesday to Sunday between Saturday 1 September and Saturday 22 September in the Garden’s gift shop.
City West Water Managing Director Anne Barker said the exchange offers residents the chance to enjoy the beautiful surrounds, while helping the environment by swapping their inefficient showerhead.
“The Sensory Garden is one of Werribee’s best kept secrets and we’ve been pleased to support this important community project by providing around 30,000 litres of reclaimed water to keep the Garden green,” Ms Barker said.
“While the recent rain is great news, we still need to conserve water around the home. Changing to a three-star efficient showerhead can reduce water use by up to 12,000 litres a year and is a small way people can make a big difference.”
Mambourin Business Manager, Stephen Gately said the Garden was delighted to work with City West Water to host the showerhead exchange program.
“We live increasingly busy lives and this event provides an opportunity to relax, perhaps with a coffee from our café, and enjoy the gardens and discover ways to make your home water wise,” Mr Gately said.
“People can walk around and experience the Mambourin Sensory Garden and see first-hand that it is possible to create a wonderful garden while reducing their water use.”
Wyndham residents have been great supporters of past showerhead exchange events.
“During a two week event in May, we swapped more than 1,500 showerheads throughout Wyndham. The water saved is enough to fill 18 Olympic swimming pools, a fantastic achievement,” Ms Barker said.
