World Water Day Sees Sunshine Primary Turn Water Wise

20 March 2009

Sunshine Primary School students will celebrate World Water Day and the school’s Bronze Accreditation of the Water – Learn it! Live it! program with a series of fun-filled events that aim to create a generation of water savers.

School students from all grades will participate in a range of World Water Day activities and a visit from the new City West Water ‘Water Wise for Life’ Education Trailer that teaches the importance of water conservation.

Anne Barker, Managing Director of City West Water said she was pleased to see Sunshine Primary achieve Bronze Accreditation and acknowledging World Water in a fun and interactive way for students.

“The Water – Learn it! Live it! program has been a great success in enabling us to teach the importance of water conservation as a vital part of the school curriculum, and Sunshine Primary is a great example of how easily this can be achieved,” Ms Barker said.

“It’s reassuring to know that schools recognise the importance of water conservation in their curriculum, and World Water Day serves to remind us how vital this program is in teaching future generations how precious a resource water is.''

Bronze Accreditation is the first milestone that can be achieved through the Water – Learn it! Live it! program. It requires a school-wide commitment to water saving, the creation of units of learning that integrate water education and conservation as a topic in one year level, and attendance at an annual Water - Learn it! Live it! professional development session.

The free education program is tailored to school students from prep to year 10 and teaches the importance of conservation. Highly informative and interactive, the program teaches students where they can save water, how to influence others to save water, and to treat water as a precious resource.
