Brimbank City Council and City West Water have established two permanent free Showerhead Exchange venues which will operate from Monday 2 July, making it easier for residents to further reduce their water consumption.
A successful two week trial run from 30 April to 11 May this year, saw Brimbank residents embrace the water conservation message and swap 797 showerheads, saving 9 516 000 litres, which is equivalent to more than nine Olympic swimming pools.
City West Water Managing Director Anne Barker said it was encouraging to see Brimbank resident’s response to the two week trial and encouraged others who are yet to take part in the exchange to drop into one of the new permanent venues and swap over their old showerheads.
“By opening these two permanent exchange locations, residents now have the opportunity to easily and conveniently exchange their old inefficient showerheads to low flow water efficient showerheads, saving money on their energy and water bills.
“Although the Government has announced new water initiatives, we still need to remain vigilant and conserve water where possible and the permanent showerhead exchange program is a simple and effective way for each household to save 12,000 litres per shower each year, just by swapping over your old showerhead.”
Brimbank Mayor, Cr Margaret Giudice, said the Council was pleased with the community’s enthusiastic response during the showerhead exchange in May.
“Residents have made a concerted effort to continue to save water. By providing permanent exchange venues even more residents will be able to take up the offer and reduce their water consumption,” said the Mayor.
Residents can exchange their old inefficient shower heads for water efficient models through the permanent free exchange program at Brimbank City Council’s Harvester Customer Service Centre at 301 Hampshire Road, Sunshine, and at the Keilor Customer Service Centre, Old Calder Highway (corner Borrell Street) Keilor from 8.45am - 5.00pm Monday through to Friday.
To take part in the free Showerhead Exchange Program visit one of the permanent venues with your old showerhead, a copy of your City West Water bill and a showerhead exchange form, available from our website or at the venue. Residents can exchange two showerheads per City West Water bill.
