City West Water, in conjunction with Mambourin Sensory Garden, are holding a Showerhead Exchange day on Saturday 14 July from 10.00am to 2.00pm at the historic Ison House, a replica of the oldest mud brick residence in Werribee.
Established in 1997, the Sensory Garden showcases a variety of water wise gardening techniques that can be incorporated into everyone’s backyard. The beautiful Garden is accentuated by weeping willows and seasonal flowers, providing a tranquil setting to sit back, relax and take in the magnificent surrounding fragrances.
Mambourin and City West Water have been working together to achieve water savings in the community through education and awareness. The Showerhead Exchange day offers the opportunity for residents to spend a relaxing Saturday taking in the beautiful surrounds, while helping the environment by swapping over their inefficient showerhead for 3-star rated water efficient showerhead.
City West Water Managing Director Anne Barker reminds residents that although it has been raining and long-term solutions to secure Victoria’s water supply have been decided, we still need to be vigilant and conserve our water usage by incorporating simple water behavioural changes.
“The Sensory Garden is Werribee’s best kept secret and we are very pleased to be part of this valuable community project and offer our residents an opportunity to reduce their water consumption simply by swapping over their inefficient showerheads and saving 12,000 litres of water a year.
We live increasingly busy lives and this family event provides an opportunity to relax and enjoy the gardens and discover some options to make your home water wise. City West Water staff and Mambourin gardeners will also be available to offer advice and answer any questions you may have about saving water inside and outside the home.”
“We are very excited to be working with City West Water by hosting the showerhead exchange program. We encourage not only Wyndham residents but other City West Water customers to help reduce their water consumption by exchanging their showerhead,” said Mambourin Business Manager Stephen Gately.
“People can walk around and experience the Mambourin Sensory Garden and see first hand that it is possible to create a wonderful garden whilst reducing water consumption.”
Visitors are also encouraged to take advantage of the meals at the café and those who exchange their showerheads will receive a free coffee with any cake purchased on the day, while the children watch the resident wood ducks, frogs and fish in their natural habitat.
The Sensory Garden is open to the public seven days a week, free of charge and is located at 2 Recreation Close, Werribee. To participate in the free Showerhead Exchange Program on Saturday 14 July, bring your old showerhead, a copy of your City West Water bill and a showerhead exchange form, available from City West Water website or at the venue. Residents can exchange two showerheads per City West Water bill.
For more information on how to remove your old showerhead, visit the City West Water website at www.citywestwater.com.au and download a ‘How to’ information sheet or view an instructional video guide.
