Braybrook College Shows the Way to Water Saving

20 October 2009

Braybrook College will have more reason to celebrate National Water Week with the secondary school achieving bronze accreditation in the Water – Learn it! Live it! program which aims to create a generation of water savers.

The Water – Learn it! Live it! program is a free education program that is tailored to school students from prep to year 10 and teaches the importance of water conservation. Highly informative and interactive, the program teaches students where they can save water, how to influence others to save water, and to treat water as a precious resource.

Once signed up, schools aim for bronze accreditation as a first step, which includes incorporating water saving elements into the school curriculum, communicating water conservation learnings to the school community, as well as celebrating National Water Week from 19-23 October.

Anne Barker, Managing Director, City West Water said she was pleased to have Braybrook College on board. Braybrook College is one of 100 schools to achieve bronze accreditation and one of more than 270 schools across Melbourne that have signed up to the Water – Learn it! Live it program.

“I congratulate Braybrook College on achieving bronze accreditation which is a fantastic achievement, and I encourage all Melbourne schools to get involved in the Water – Learn it! Live it! program,” Ms Barker said.

“While National Water week aims to remind the broader community of the importance of water conservation, this program is teaching future generations to understand what a precious resource water is.

“Through their involvement with Water – Learn it! Live it!, Braybrook College is leading by example when it comes to water conservation education, and I am sure both students and staff will continue to show great enthusiasm and commitment to the program,” Ms Barker said.

About Water - Learn it! Live it!
Water - Learn it! Live it! has been developed by Melbourne’s four water authorities: City West Water, South East Water, Yarra Valley Water and Melbourne Water, and is funded through the State Government’s Our Water Our Future program. Schools need to reduce their water use, incorporate water conservation lessons across all grades and promote water conservation messages to their local community to achieve the top ‘gold’ level accreditation.
