Grab a Free Showerhead at Caroline Springs Civic Centre

27 October 2009

Caroline Springs residents wanting to slash water use at home can take advantage of a free showerhead exchange at Caroline Springs Civic Centre.

City West Water Managing Director, Anne Barker, said City West Water customers can swap their old inefficient showerhead for a 3-star water saving one in a matter of minutes.

“Water is our most precious resource, and we all have a responsibility to save as much of it as we can inside the home and the shower is one of the biggest users of water at home,” Ms Barker said.

“With the State Government’s Target 155 campaign encouraging people to limit water use to 155 litres of water per person per day, a water efficient showerhead can make achieving that goal much easier.

“Ensuring your home has an efficient showerhead in each bathroom is one of the easiest ways to save water and reduce your water and energy bills, particularly when you consider that old style showerheads can use up to 20 litres per minute.”

Melton Shire Council Mayor, Renata Cugliari, said based on the success of the showerhead exchange program at the Melton Civic Centre, Council was pleased the service could be extended to City West Water customers in Caroline Springs and surrounds.

“Council is very supportive of any initiative that encourages the community to save water in their homes. By changing a showerhead to a more water efficient one and cutting down showers to four minutes or less, one person can save up to 13,500 litres of water in their home and cut $60 from their hot water bill per year,” Cr Cugliari said.

\“The showerhead exchange has been made as easy as possible. Residents only need to bring their old showerhead and a City West Water bill to the Caroline Springs Civic Centre to receive a new water saving showerhead.”

Ms Barker said there has been great support of the showerhead exchange program, with tens of thousands of showerheads swapped in the last few years.

“I encourage everyone who hasn’t already done so to take advantage of the free showerhead and watch their water usage drop dramatically.”
