Sustainability Indicators
Aim: The following Sustainability Indicator aims to demonstrate how responsibly we manage the supply and demand of water and maximise its sustainable reuse.
Total Recycling and Reuse of Water
Where we would like to be:
Our Recycled Water Strategy aims to supply 570 million litres of recycled water by 2006. It will also help us contribute to the Victorian Government’s 20% water recycling target by 2010.
Where we are:
| Amount of recycled water supplied | 2002-03 | 2003-04 | 2004-05 | 2005-06 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Actual | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| Target | 0ML | 0ML | 170ML | 570ML |
Note: The word “supplied” has been changed from produced which was used last year. No other changes have occurred to this indicator.
Results:
We planned to deliver approximately 570ML of recycled water during 2005-06, however due to project delays this was not achieved.
The bulk of the recycled water we planned to supply from the Altona Treatment Plant to the Kooringal and Sanctuary Lakes Golf Clubs was reliant on the upgrade to the Plant. Supply of recycled water to the two golf courses is now planned for 2007-08.
The Werribee Technology Precinct project was also expected to be suppling recycled water during 2005-06, however there were delays in the approval of funding. Supply to this project is now expected in 2007.
Where we are headed:
We are committed to delivering recycled water to three housing estates in the Wyndham Growth Corridor as part of the West Werribee Dual Water Supply Project and have commenced construction to deliver recycled water to the Werribee Technology Precinct, MacKillop College and numerous Wyndham City Council parklands.
Several other recycled water projects are in various stages of development including the Altona Golf Course Recycled Water project. In partnership with local councils, we are also investigating the feasibility of new recycled water opportunities throughout our service area.
