Our Sustainability Indicators

Once again, this report is structured around our Sustainability Indicators which demonstrate how sustainability is integrated into the business and tells our sustainability story in a practical way.

The Sustainability Indicators were developed in 2003–04 and reflect our Corporate Plan and the long-term vision for City West Water. They also present our performance on the key sustainability issues for our business, including water conservation, water quality, water recycling, minimising trade waste, our people and customer and community care. 

Each year we review the Sustainability Indicators to make sure they offer our readers meaningful information. This year, we changed some of indicators to better measure our sustainability performance, (these are outlined below). Where possible, we have included the future targets for the indicators and also the Guaranteed Service Level payments that have been made during the period.

Nil	Social Strategy	Some activities were included in last year’s Education Strategy and this indicator has now become a key focus for our business.
Average duration to rectify a sewer interruption	Average time to rectify a sewer blockage	This name has been changed to be consistent with our key performance indicators. The way it is measured has stayed the same.
Community care	Community assistance	This name has been changed to be consistent with our key performance indicators. The way it is measured has stayed the same.

We consulted with staff and stakeholders on these revised indicators, which have been approved by our Managing Director.

Each section of this report provides information on how we are working towards sustainability, our performance against relevant Sustainability Indicators and a related case study that showcases examples of the programs we have implemented during the year that are aimed at achieving sustainability.
