Environment Improvement Plan
City West Water’s third Environment Improvement Plan was launched in 2003 and expired on 30 June 2006. The plan was developed in consultation with our Community Liaison Committee, which has a role in monitoring our environmental performance. The plan contained 36 objectives and targets to improve our environmental performance including reusing treated wastewater and biosoilds produced at the Altona Treatment Plant, supporting environmental projects in the local community and expanding the scope of the resource conservation objective.
During 2005-06, we met 34 of the 36 targets. The two unmet targets relate to operations at the Altona Treatment Plant. We are undertaking a major redevelopment of the Plant to achieve the more stringent environmental licence conditions that have been imposed by the EPA Victoria and so we can produce recycled water at the plant. For more information on the Altona Treatment Plant upgrade click here. For more information on the targets and 2005-06 results of the Environment Improvement Plan click here.
We are currently developing a new Environment Improvement Plan for 2006-08. This plan will outline our operational targets for this period, including reducing our head office water and paper use, ensuring 100% of the Altona Treatment Plant’s biosolids are reused and supplying recycled water to our customers. We will report on our progress in 2006-07.
