Financially Assisting Our Customers
To assist with the implementation of reduction options, City West Water and the Victorian Government have provided funding to a number of customers.
Melbourne Linen Service received a cleaner production grant of $100,000 from City West Water to install a trade waste treatment system which saves approximately 80% of their water through recycling. The total project cost was $400,000.
Six of the Victorian Government’s WaterSmart industry demonstration projects which began in 2004-05 have been completed, receiving funding of $127,500. In total these projects will save an estimated 340 million litres of drinking water and 200 tonnes of salt per year.
One example of a WaterSmart industry project was Huntsman Chemicals which has commenced a project that diverts a caustic waste stream to neutralise their trade waste. It is expected to be completed in April 2007 and to save an estimated 100 tonnes of salt discharged to sewer per year, in addition to reducing treatment costs for the company.
