Sustainability Indicators
Aim: The Sustainability Indicator in this section aims to demonstrate the framework that enables us to move our business further towards sustainability.
Sustainability Covenant
Where we would like to be:
A Sustainability Covenant with the EPA Victoria encourages our business to:
- increase the efficiency with which we use resources to service our customers
- reduce the ecological impact of those services throughout their lifecycle.
Where we are:
| Plans implemented | 2004-05 | 2005-06 | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Actual | 18 | 12 | 30 |
| Target | 17 | 13 | 30 |
Results:
Some of the highlights of the 30 initiatives that we have achieved include:
- enhanced co-operation between the EPA Victoria and City West Water on cleaner production and trade waste issues
- successful implementation of City West Water’s Water Conservation and Natural Resource Management Plans
- increased purchase of Green Energy from 5% to 10% consumption
- enhanced awareness of sustainability issues across the business through the introduction of sustainability awareness sessions, which have included a sustainable gardening information session and a presentation on indigenous heritage values relevant to our service area.
Where we are headed:
As of March 2006, the Sustainability Covenant has expired. A new Covenant is being discussed with the EPA Victoria and will include new business targets.
